FORT SMITH - After a solid regular-season performance and a runner-up finish in this weekend’s Heartland Conference Tournament, the UAFS women’s basketball team has been rewarded with a bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

UAFS (20-10) received the No. 7 seed in the South Central Region and will play No. 2 seed West Texas A&M in the first round of the tournament, which will be hosted by No. 1 seed Lubbock Christian at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas.

Game dates and times will be released on Monday.

It will be the Lady Lions’ second appearance in the NCAA Division II National Tournament in their seven-year history as an active NCAA Division II member.

UAFS received the No. 5 seed in its first appearance in 2015 and beat No. 4 seed Colorado Mesa 68-65 in the first round before losing to No. 1 seed West Texas A&M 70-57 in the region tournament semifinals.

Lubbock Christian (28-1), which won the Heartland Conference regular-season and conference tournament titles, will play No. 8 seed Tarleton State, No. 3 seed Colorado State-Pueblo will play No. 6 seed Metro State University and No. 4 seed Angelo State will play No. 5 seed Black Hills State.
