The National Weather Service says storms and flooding could be a major probability across Arklahoma as meteorologists brace for a busy weekend.

“There could be an isolated tornado but really it is more of a hail and wind threat.” InsideFortSmith.Com meteorologist Dan Holiday said Friday morning. “This weekend it becomes a flooding issue where that front sets up.”

According to Holiday, Fort Smith is in a moderate risk for flash flooding as the weekend.

“There is an area from along Interstate 44 in Southwest Missouri that extends all the way back to the south and west of Fort Smith.” Holiday noted. “Someone in that area could be getting up to eight inches of rain by Sunday. It just really depends on where the front sets up.”

As for tonight, the Fort Smith and Van Buren areas could be in for a bumpy ride.

“Our latest models show the worst of the weather arriving in Fort Smith around 10:00 PM.” Holiday predicts. “The storms will likely set up to the south and west of Fort Smith around 9:00 PM, then move through the area. By 11:00, we think they will be pretty widespread.”
