FORT SMITH - After announcing that e-mails and other correspondence between city directors would be made transparent, officials are trying to clear the air on how often new data is released to the public.
Following a judges’ finding that city directors had been operating in violation of the Freedom of Information Act, the city announced January 19th that they had created a portal where the public could inspect all electronic communications between city officials and board members.
Now, some say they haven’t been able to find new data, and the supposed lack of new information has been the frequent target of a local blogger on social media. The city says those people have been misinterpreting the site’s functions and updates.
“The last upload date was February 28, 2018. The uploads occur weekly, occasionally more frequently than weekly if needed.” the City said Thursday. “The dates at the bottom of the webpage indicate the date the webpage was created and last updated. Last updated does not mean the date of the last upload. We hope that helps clear-up any misconception.”
