LITTLE ROCK – A central Arkansas man reportedly brought in a winning Mega Millions lottery ticket worth $40,000 to the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claims Center on Wednesday day after waiting nearly five months to claim his prize.

Edward Hamilton of Jacksonville, AR bought the winning ticket from a local Kroger for a drawing to be held in December 2018.

“I wanted to get something done first,” said Hamilton. “I’m a writer and wanted to finish my non-fiction book before I claimed my prize. I developed a passion for writing at a young age and have been writing professionally for over 10 years.”

According to the Arkansas State Lottery Commission, players have up to 180 days from the draw date to claim a prize on online (terminal-generated) games like Mega Millions.

Hamilton says he plans to invest and fun with his winnings and also reports he will be celebrating his 10th year of sobriety next month.
