The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, will host its summer blood drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, located at 800 N. 49th Street.

The blood drive is sponsored by the UAFS Student Activities Office and the Campus Activities Board’s community events committee and is free and open to the public. Each donor will receive a free health screening, “Summer Vibes & Saving Lives” t-shirt, and their choice of one free admission to Science Museum Oklahoma, one free admission to Frontier City, or two free tickets to Safari Joe’s H2O Water Park.

UAFS coordinates five blood drives each year in an effort to help reach out to potential blood donors on campus. The blood is provided to the Arkansas Blood Institute, a non-profit blood center whose volunteer donors provide 100 percent of the blood needed by patients in 40 Arkansas hospitals.

“UAFS blood donors are vital in making sure the Arkansas Blood Institute’s blood supply is kept at a healthy level. Your selfless donation has the potential to save three lives each time you donate,” said a campus announcement about the drive. “Every drop of blood needed by patients in our region of Western Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma is provided by ABI and donors like you.”

Drop-ins are welcome, or to schedule an appointment call 479-788-7663 or email studentactivities@uafs.edu.

Donors in a hurry can use the Donor Express program on the day of donation to expedite the process:

1.    Visit arkbi.org, then click on the green Donor EXPRESS button on the right side of the screen.

2.    Answer the health history questions confidentially.

3.    Print the coded page that contains hidden responses.

4.    Bring that page to the UAFS when ready to donate.
