FORT SMITH – UAFS golf coach Daniel Hayden has been named the Golf Pride Grips NCAA Division II South Central Region Coach of the Year.

Hayden, who just finished his third season as head coach of the men’s and women’s golf teams, coached the Lions to their most successful season of their nine-year NCAA Division II history.

The Lions finished runner-up in the Heartland Conference Tournament – their second-highest finish ever – and qualified for their second NCAA Division II South Central/West Region Tournament, where they posted a program-best 11th-place finish.

UAFS posted Top 5 finishes in eight of its 10 tournaments, including one win and three runner-up finishes.

It is the second coach of the year honor for Hayden, who also was named Heartland Conference Coach of the Year.
