FORT SMITH – With morning temperatures in the single digits today, it is hard to imagine that warmer temperatures could be here by the weekend. However, the National Weather Service says that not only will it be more comfortable, but we may have some thunderstorms that will accompany the increase on the thermometer.
“A strong warming trend will ensue by late week as the arctic high shifts east and south winds return.” the National Weather Service forecast office said Tuesday. “A strong upper system will move into the Plains late in the weekend resulting in showers and possibly a few thunderstorms on Sunday.”
An increase in Southerly winds this afternoon could raise the potential for fire danger across Eastern Oklahoma, so extreme caution is recommended.
