RUSSELLVILLE – A Russellville businessman was killed Friday afternoon after being struck by lightning while standing in his yard.
A Facebook post from the Fifth and Greenwich Church Of Christ confirmed that 67-year-old Al Frazier, a resident of the Lands End subdivision near the Arkansas River, was the victim of the lightning strike. According to Pope County Coroner Danny White, Frazier was working in his yard as the storm moved into the area.
Emergency crews responded after Frazier’s wife called 911. According to weather radar, the lightning strike took place at 1:21 PM, as severe thunderstorms moved from east to west.
Frazier was the longtime proprietor of Arkansas Restoration Services, a company that specialized in the cleanup of natural disasters.
According to the National Weather Service, this is the ninth fatality by lightning strike in the United States this year and the second in Arkansas.
