LITTLE ROCK — In response to inquiries into the possible pre-payment of 2018 property taxes, Governor Asa Hutchinson released the following statement:
“Recently, a number of states have allowed property owners to pre-pay their property taxes for 2018. Here in Arkansas, responsibility for the payment of taxes is handled at the county level,” Governor Hutchinson said. “Property owners wishing to pay in advance are advised to contact the county officials where the property is located.”
“Under the constitution of our state, property taxes are purely local in nature and the decision on when and how to accept pre-payment of property taxes must be posed to local officials, who can best judge whether they have the authority necessary to accept early payment,” the governor said.
