FORT SMITH – While winter weather is expected in the states to our north, the National Weather Service says residents of the River Valley can expect a lot of wet weather this weekend.
” Heavy rainfall is expected across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas through tonight,” Forecasters said Friday morning. “Mainstream river flooding and localized flooding of low-lying areas will be possible in parts of northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas as a result of the rainfall. Southeast Oklahoma may see a few lightning strikes, too. “
Meteorologists say that while the River Valley likely won’t see it, that some freezing precipitation is likely in some parts of the region.
“In addition, some wintry precipitation will be possible tonight. Light snow may mix with the rain after midnight across parts of northeast Oklahoma with the best chance along the Kansas border, with little to no accumulation expected.” The Weather Service said. “Portions of northwest Arkansas may also drop to near freezing late tonight, allowing for a chance of freezing rain.”
