FORT SMITH – New officers have been added to books at the Fort Smith Police Department, and will now begin their careers in law enforcement as of August 6th. According to an announcement, four individuals made the transition from applicant to probationary police officer.

“Your Fort Smith Police Department welcomed Arielle James, Garett Ford, Joseph Underwood and Jens Sorensen to the ranks after they were officially sworn in by District Court Judge Claire Borengasser at the Sebastian County Courts Complex.” the Department said this week. “These four officers are officially on the payroll and will attend an orientation process prior to joining seven officers hired on June 25th in the next Fort Smith Law Enforcement Training Academy class beginning later this month.”

The Department expressed pride in the hiring of the newest officers.

“The decision to answer the call to serve is not an easy one to make.” the announcement stated. “The journey to becoming a fully certified law enforcement officer is a long and hard one. Welcome aboard Officers!”
